The need for Cyber Essentials
Around 80% of cyber-attacks could have been prevented if businesses implemented some simple security controls
Cyber Essentials is a scheme introduced by the UK Government, administered by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and supported by Industry
The scheme helps businesses of all sizes to identify and put into place simple prioritised security controls to combat the most common cyber security threats. Businesses that achieve cyber essentials certification are able to demonstrate to their clients, insurers, and potential private sector customers that they take cyber security seriously and have put processes in place to protect their IT assets.
Included in the scheme is the benefit of Cyber liability insurance for UK domiciled businesses with a turnover of less than £20 Million who pass the assessment and obtain the accreditation
Assessment Levels
The Cyber Essentials scheme has two levels of certification, Cyber essentials (basic), and Cyber essentials (plus). Both certifications assess your Cyber security controls covering:

Secure Configuration
User Access Control
Malware Protection
Patch Management
Cyber Essentials
Complete a self-assessment questionnaire, with signoff from a senior company representative. An external certification body verifies the responses you have provided. As an accredited certification body 1Alpha can assess and certify organisations

Cyber Essentials Plus
For this level of accreditation, businesses must first obtain Cyber essentials, they will also undergo an external vulnerability scan of their internet facing networks and applications, and an onsite assessment performed by an external certification body
